Sara Boilen, who is the clinical psychologist at the helm of Sweetgrass Psychological Services in Whitefish MT is a backcountry user and avalanche educator. She has studied human factors extensively and her clinical practice focuses on trauma and grief. Her dissertation was on the impact of rock climbing on hope and courage and she is a published author in the field of avalanche fatalities. She has presented at NRSAW, NSAW, and has been featured in Powder Magazine and TAR. Dr. Boilen was recently selected by the American Avalanche Association to be the clinical consultant for their forthcoming resilient avalanche communities project. Sara has been studying resilience, grief, and the neuropsychological components of trauma for decades and her trainings show it. She is an engaging presenter who adapts to the needs of her group to ensure full participation, engagement, and growth.
