John has 40 years of outdoor adventure program experience; teaching courses in rock climbing, ice climbing, general mountaineering, wilderness medicine, outdoor leadership, risk management, and research.

In 1994, John founded the Adventure Leadership degree program at Lyndon State College (now known as Northern Vermont University - Lyndon), where he served as a full-time and part-time faculty in the Mountain Recreation Management Department for 25 years.

He is the owner of Kingdom Adventures Mountain Guides, LLC located in East Burke, Vermont. He teaches urban first aid, wilderness first aid and wilderness first responder courses for SOLO Wilderness Medicine, and avalanche courses for International Mountain Climbing School.
