My name is Tasha Thomas and I have a masters in teaching and work for the Lake Tahoe Unified School District. I fell in love with Avalanche education in 2017 when I took my first motorized avalanche recreation 1 class. Since then, I have decided to pursue avalanche education and became a strong advocator for avalanche education in my community and region. I joined the Sierra Avalanche Center Board of Directors in 2020, completed my Motorized Pro Level 1 later that year and completed my AIARE ITC in 2022. Teaching is my passion and I hope/plan to teach motorized avalanche education and rescue courses for AIARE, the Sierra Avalanche Center and Lake Tahoe Community College. I have already begun to educate through the LTCC Connect Education program focusing on both human-powered and youth motorized avalanche awareness and risk management workshops. I also work for the Nickolay Dodov Foundation using the KBYG educational framework and have provided free avalanche awareness events to the public. I will be teaching an All Women's Motorized Level 1 through Sierra Avalanche Center and a Youth Motorized Backcountry Awareness class through Lake Tahoe Community College, as well as other human-powered courses and workshops.
