Course Leader
I have been guiding continuously since 1989 and teaching AIARE courses since 2003. I am an IFMGA guide and seem to run a lot more ski programs than I used to because they are so much fun.
As a naturally social person I enjoy teaching AIARE courses because I get to spend so much time outside with people learning to navigate the mountains safely. It is always interesting to see how people think about risk and I seem to continuously learn more myself from these interactions. A lot goes into being competent in the snow environment such as fitness, avalanche knowledge, weather forecasting, effective communication, route finding and navigation, ski skills, etc. These things all seem to come together on an AIARE course and I find it a rich environment for learning.
