Justin Studt was born and raised in Kansas City, Missouri, where he got an early start in the world of outdoor adventure through competitive BMX racing. His passion for pushing physical limits and exploring new terrain began there and continued to grow when he moved to North Carolina for college and discovered rock climbing. Drawn to the challenge, community, and creativity of climbing, it quickly became a central part of his life.
After graduating, Justin moved to Colorado in 1999, where he began working in construction and exploring the mountain environment in earnest. His growing interest in rescue and emergency care led him to complete an EMT-Basic course and volunteer with a local rescue agency. That experience deepened into a full career shift as he became a paramedic, working in both ambulance services and ski patrol. His time as a ski patroller sparked a long-term commitment to avalanche education and mountain safety.
Over the years, Justin has blended his technical skills, medical training, and deep respect for the mountain environment into a guiding and teaching career. Whether leading backcountry ski tours, alpine climbs, or teaching avalanche and climbing courses, he is dedicated to helping clients build the skills and confidence to move independently and safely in the mountains. Known for his calm presence, clear communication, and thoughtful instruction, Justin values connection, mentorship, and the simple joy of being outside.
