Joshua Richards currently living in Whitefish, MT. I spend several weeks of each season traveling around the state and out the state of Montana for pleasure and work. Love going to new places to teach or learn.
I first got into professional avalanche courses in college then later became the Colorado Mountain School Intern, where I tagged along with the guides. Some were AIARE or AMGA courses and others were guided outings for ski, alpine or rock climbing. This started my outdoor educator path and led me to Oregon. Over the course of 4 years, I primarily was a rock climbing instructor and some ski school instructor. Leaving the Oregon climbing scene in 2018, I was the Outdoor Program Coordinator, Head Guide, Head of Instruction, and Assistant Coach of the Climbing Team at the Portland Rock Gym. Moving to Montana next to pursue my snow career, I first started off still guiding clients rock climbing in the summer, which ultimately led me to working for The Mountain Guides as a guide/instructor. Now I am working towards being a certified Alpine Guide and in future years take my Ski Guide course. I have shadowed all of the Rec. Level courses in the past 3 winters, and complete yearly trainings. Additionally, I have coached the high school hockey team for the past 4 years.
