Level 3 Instructor Qualifications |
Required Qualifications for Level 3 Course Leader
- Instructor experience on 3 or more AIARE Level 3 courses
- Letter of recommendation from a supervising AIARE Course Leader outlining courses taught, professional leadership experience and teaching experience.
- AIARE Level 3 Course certificate
- AIARE Instructor Training for Level 1 and Level 2
- Course Leader experience on Level 2 avalanche courses
- Experience in at least two different snow climates
- AAA Professional membership
- Minimum five years professional leadership experience in backcountry terrain
Required Continued Professional Development
- AIARE IT/IRC Course (minimum every 3 years)
Recommended Qualifications
- AMGA Ski Guide or AMGA Ski Mountaineering Guide certificate or an IFMGA affiliate certificate
- Three years professional decision-making experience in another type of avalanche related work (avalanche safety, avalanche control, research, etc.)
- Canadian Avalanche Association Level 2 Avalanche Course certification
Instructors Level 3
Required Qualifications
- Recent observation of an AIARE Level 3 course.
- AIARE Instructor Training for Level 1, Level 2
- Worked as an instructor on an AIARE Level 1 and Level 2 courses
- Professional decision-making experience in another type of avalanche related work (avalanche safety, avalanche control, research, etc.) †
- AAA Professional membership
- Minimum five years professional leadership experience in backcountry terrain
Required Continued Professional Development
- AIARE IT/IRC Course (minimum every 3 years)
Recommended Qualifications
- Experience in various snow climates
- AMGA Ski Guide or Ski Mountaineering Guide certificate OR equivalent IFMGA recognized certificate
- AAA certified instructor
- Canadian Avalanche Association Level 2 Avalanche Course certificate
† Equivalent training/experience must be approved by the AIARE Technical Director.
