All Instructor Training courses for 2009-2010 have ben run. Look here this fall for a complete list of Instructor Training and Instructor Refresher courses for season 2010-2011.
Instructor Training Courses (ITC's) are designed for continued
professional development and act as an information exchange for current
and aspirant outdoor educators. If you're interested in sharing ideas
and concepts in avalanche education, the AIARE ITC's offer a forum to
meet with other instructors. Anyone with an interest in avalanche
education can take part. Guest speakers are always invited and course
participants take part in "peer presentations" in an effort to improve
their presentation skills and contribute to the course.
All AIARE instructors begin with the Level 1 ITC. ITC's are held on a
regular basis. The ITC’s introduce the AIARE curriculum, general goals
and learning outcomes for each of the courses in the AIARE training
program. These courses are three consecutive days in length. The
courses spend time indoors and in the field.
The Instructor Training Course does not automatically qualify the participant to be an AIARE instructor. It is one of the qualifications that must be fulfilled. Complete qualifications are described here; Instructor Qualifications
AIARE requires all instructors to attend a training course as part of
the prerequisites required before qualifying to obtain AIARE materials
and resources. Once they have attended a training course, instructors
are required to refresh on a regular basis to maintain their instructor qualification.
A complete overview of the AIARE instructor training and instructor continuing education program is discussed here. If you are serious about the AIARE instructor training program you need to read that document.
There are no pre-requisites to attend an ITC, only an interest in
avalanche education. Those who wish to attend an ITC should apply
online. For questions, contact Ben Pritchett, AIARE Programs Director;

All instructor training courses are three day courses.
INSTRUCTOR REFRESHER COURSES
Instructor Refresher Courses (IRC's) are designed for existing AIARE
instructors. Attendance at an IRC every 3 years is required to stay
current as an AIARE instructor. IRC's are one day sessions that review
any curriculum changes, update instructors on new technical information
and have a guest presentation. Some of these sessions have outdoor
components and some do not dependent upon venue. Check details.
